What Are Windows?
They are rectangular shaped visual areas that include the user interface, allowing to show the output and data entry for several processes that must be executed simultaneously. The windows in computer science, are associated to the graphical interfaces being able to be controlled with a pointer. It was created and developed by Xerox PARC. Before continuing to talk about how windows work, it is necessary to take into account and clear several aspects.
The graphical user interface (GUI). It is an interface that uses the window as a main metaphor, since these objects represent two-dimensional elements located on a desktop. These windows can be moved, resized, restored, hidden or closed voluntarily. When two windows are overlapped, one will be on top of the other, with a covered part.
There are several platforms that have texts interfaces as it happens with Emacs, which allows the division into windows. There is also one part of a window, called administrator or window manager, which is responsible for manipulating and controlling everything regarding the window system.
In other words, we mean that windows are widgets of many GUIs (graphical user interfaces), X Window System systems with Unix and GNU systems, CDE for VMS, WIMP, OpenWindows and Microsoft Windows, are just some of the systems that have this widget.
As well as those, there are several applications or platforms with which you can work with more than one file at the same time, as with the image editor, a file is placed in each window separated so that users can visualize the two images at the same time.
How Do Windows Work?
In general, there is a difference between the main windows of a platform and the secondary windows, however, many platforms cause the windows to be minimized in the lower part of the main window.

The use of the windows will depend on each administrator that is used, since they have a group of properties that must be customized by the user, some of the properties are:
- Visibility in the desktops, valid only when the administrator supports virtual desktops.

- Minimize, usually hide the windows and place a link in the taskbar.
- It is always placed on top to prevent it from being covered by other windows.
- Edges (appearance).
- You can decide if you leave only the title bar and the rest of the window stays hidden.
It should be noted that the user can move the windows in X11 as long as he has pressed the modifier key, in this way he can drag any area of the window, or he can also choose to use the title bar. There are many window managers that allow the grouping of windows to work as one.
Types Of Windows
Now that we know a little about how windows work, it is necessary to teach them a little about what types of windows are currently available.
Windows of utility: Are those that float on top of the other windows, in addition they offer information or tools on the platform.
Windows of documents or application: It is the most common and normal type of windows, they are those that include information of applications or documents.
Dialog boxes: These are windows that provide the information required by the user or also request information from the user.
Inspectors: These are windows that are on top of other windows of the same platforms, their function is to visualize the properties or characteristics of a specific element.
